An Insert (or pocket) install slides a new window into your old wood frame. It’s faster and cheaper, but it doesn't allow us to inspect the hidden framing for rot. We almost always recommend a Full Replacement. We strip the opening down to the studs, replace any rotted wood, and install a brand-new unit with a modern nail flange and flashing tape. This method often gains you up to 3 inches of extra glass around the perimeter.
