New Windows Installed for Grace Bible Church

Grace Bible Church was damaged by large hail from a storm in July 2024. Both the roof and west side windows took severe damage and needed to be replaced. Our team first completed a full roof installation back in September, and the Kingdom Builders window install team was called in to replace the tall windows providing light to the sanctuary. Since materials needed to be ordered, the windows were installed several weeks after the roof.

Problem

Windows on the west side of the church were damaged by hail. The windows on the east side of the building were undamaged, but the decision was made to replace them at the same time to match the new set of west windows. The previous windows were over twenty years old and made from vinyl, with window mulls between 13′ and 16′ tall. There were also old sills that were falling apart, which led to air leaks and loss of insulative value.

Solution

The Kingdom Builders team spent December 9th on-site. Our team started on the west side of the sanctuary, first removing the old windows and then stripping everything down to the studs. The church leadership chose to go with the Marvin Essentials line with Ultrex Fiberglass. A big reason for this selection was the ability to “mull” (or join) these windows together on use cases where the window opening is over 12′ tall.

These new windows were installed in a balancing act, of sorts. Since the opening in the wall was over 12 feet vertically, it required 3+ installers to hold the windows in the frame at any given time.

Our team cut back the interior sheetrock returns to spray foam the gaps, which were then covered with a stop. The old sills were replaced with pre-finished white poplar and the exterior trim is 2×4 rough saw cedar with a custom-painted finish to match the siding of the building.

Result

The new windows are providing an immediate improvement to the aesthetic of the church. Lighting in the sanctuary was improved, and the visible hail damage was gone. With winter temps beginning to set in, the church should see a reduction in energy costs over the rest of the winter. The pre-finished white poplar sills and rough saw-cut cedar provided a great finished look.
