Fiber Cement
For years, fiber cement has been labeled the most durable, but here in Minnesota with the changing of seasons, that may not be the case. We would be glad to discuss the pros and cons of fiber cement siding with you.
Traditional Wood
Wood siding can look great for a little while but needs constant maintenance. The durability is also low because it is soft and vulnerable to both rot and insects. Woodpeckers also really like to attack it. This material is not common anymore.
Cedar Shake
Cedar shakes are very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. It is fairly durable but requires a lot of maintenance. Woodpeckers like to get after this as well. Recently, the price of cedar has gone up dramatically.
Metal
Metal is labeled as maintenance-free but there are some issues. Sometimes the paint ends up chipping and flaking off. Also, it dents easily, it doesn't hold up to hail storms very well. If pieces are dented, replacing individual panels is impossible without redoing the whole side of the house.
Composite
Composite siding delivers the look of wood siding, with the added advantage of low maintenance and moisture resistance. Our preferred manufacturer designs their siding with glass-reinforced polymer and graphite-infused polystyrene, which boosts durability in windy conditions.
