Ice dams can be a major problem during the winter months, causing damage to your roof and home. If it is left untreated, ice dams can lead to leaks, water damage, and mold growth. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to remove ice dams and prevent them from forming in the future.

One of the most effective methods for removing ice dams is to use a roof rake to pull the snow and ice off the edge of your roof. This can be done from the ground and does not require you to climb on the roof. Be sure to work slowly and carefully to avoid damaging your shingles or gutters.

If the ice dams are severe, you may need to have us remove snow or use our specialized equipment to remove the ice itself.

We provide both snow shoveling services and have a low-pressure, high-temperature steamer to remove ice. This method ensures that we cut through the ice without damaging the shingles.

Why Are Ice Dams So Bad Some Winters?

The Minneapolis and surrounding areas have seen a lot of snow. Temperatures can fluctuate between warm and cold. When it gets warm, the snow melts especially during the day, and then freezes at night. An additional factor is a lack of insulation in the attic and improper attic ventilation. Warm air from the house moves up into the attic warming the decking and shingles which melts the snow on the roof. Once the water hits the soffit and gutter area it refreezes. Over time, this builds up and causes issues. Our crews have seen extreme situations while shoveling roofs, discovering up to 18 inches of ice!

				Another great project completed by The Kingdom Builders! This time installing Marvin Double Hung windows in our one of a kind 1903 triple layer brick home. They did two site visits and measuring sessions with me until I felt we had a great plan to upgrade our windows but maintain the architecture and appearance of our historic home. Scott and Cole have great product knowledge. They communicate and plan well together. They provided me with several options to fit our requirements of quality and price. Luke and his install team were hardworking, clean and efficient. They were careful in our home and covered our belongings, took off their shoes etc. Next year I will have them back to finish more window replacements.

				The Kingdom Builders installed new gutters on my old home as the previous gutters were deteriorating. Lee came up with some creative solutions for the water flows to reduce downspouts and direct the water away from some lowers spots on my property. The crew was timely and friendly.
